About

Chris Valentine is an artist & illustrator from Johannesburg, South Africa. Since the start of his career in 2010, he has worked for brands like Apple, Nike, Disney, Warner Brothers & Lucasfilm.

Chris's interest in art, as a career, all started with album covers for the metal bands he loved. It was either 'lead guitarist for a metal band', or 'whoever made the cool cover art for them'.

He started experimenting with digital art in Photoshop during his high school years, leading him to a graphic design internship at Rivers Church after matric, and eventually to full time freelancing in 2010.

His first freelance jobs were as a graphic designer, which led into pencil and watercolour portrait illustrations for agencies & eventually full time work as a freelance illustrator.

He then entered the fine art world with multiple solo gallery shows at 99 Loop Gallery, which also saw his work featuring at Turbine Art Fairs and FNB Art Fairs, as well as being exhibited internationally. Simultaneously, Chris was expanding his mural and street art portfolio, as well as working on multiple commissions for private clients and brands.

In 2021, Chris entered the alternative movie poster world. Beginning with private commissions and moving into officially licensed artwork through Bottleneck Gallery in New York, as well as direct work for studios and brands. To date, Chris has had the honour of working for Lucasfilm, Warner Brothers, Disney, Paramount Pictures, Netflix, Prime, the Zorro Estate, Sideshow and Super7, and his work features in the private collections of both Paramount Pictures and George Lucas at Skywalker Ranch.

Chris is a proud husband to Rita, and daddy to his two beautiful daughters, Leila & Abbi.
